So, the team and I, we were worried about mile 10 at the AFC 1/2 marathon coming up this weekend! Oh, mile 10 this and mile 10 that. . .well. . .we find out 2 days ago, we need to worry about mile 11.5 to 12.5 and NOT mile 10. The elevation is looks like it goes from 50 to nearly 200 feet high! For most runs, not a big deal but when it's at the END of the run, it becomes a big deal. The past 3 weeks of training has been strong for us. We have completed several miles of hills in the San Diego area that should prepare us for this run. The course is mainly flat and the other runners are great! This will be my 4th year running this event and I have to say it's hard and fun at the same time. I think I even blogged about this race several weeks ago and how that hill has kicked my butt 2 out of the 3 times I have run this event.
Last weekend we ran a very hilly 8 mile run. It was tough but the group of three averaged a 8:20 minute mile! The goal for most of the runners would be to finish with no injuries and for some to finish under 1:50 minutes. I think we are ready to ROCK this RUN!
Speaking of ROCKING this RUN, the guys over at ROCKMYRUN put together a great mix for TEAM DIRTY RED particularly for the AFC 1/2 marathon! Click on the title letters above and look for the DIRTY RED MIX! Mainly old school hip hop to rock classics that will definitely help pace ourselves throughout the run. Team Member, Jeffery swears by the "Too Legit to Quit" part of the mix to help us up that notorious hill! We will put that to the test and let you know how it goes!
Normally, I am not excited about a race but more nervous. This year, I am looking forward to AFC and I hope that I can PR in this event. I will not share that number with you until after I have done it. After my Solana Beach duathlon win, I am a little pumped and a little cocky on the inside (which is not part of my DNA), so I hope that this alter ego shows up on Sunday and kicks some AFC boodie!
